Preparing to Brew

Recipe selection and sanitation

Choosing what beer to make involves a recipe that dictates what raw materials are needed, quantities and timing. Prior to the brew-day all equipment is cleaned and sanitized.

Basic Ingredients

Barley, Hops, Water, Yeast

Beer consists for four primary ingredients; Barley, Hops, Water, and Yeast. Each are processed in some way before being ready for brewing.

Barley is germinated and cooked to become Malt. Hops are harvested, dried and processed to become hop pellets. Water is treated to support specific beer styles. Yeast is isolated into specific strains.

Hot Side

Grinding, Mashing In, Sparging, Boiling, and Whirlpool

After the malt is ground to the right consistency it is combined with hot water at a specific temperature in a processes called Mashing-in. After the mash is completed addtional water is compl;lkjdsa;lkjl;kasdjf;laksjdf

Cold Side

Fermentation through packaging

The cold side starts after the beer leaves the lauter tun. It is cooled by glycol while it is being transferred to the fermenter.
